This helpful little post has been shared with us by Laura from Lulabee, who specialise in wedding stationery and decoration hire.
A Wedding Invitation will be the first impression each guest will have of your special day. It will also set the tone and expectation level for the whole event. Nowadays people will send texts or messages via email or Facebook to wish friends and family a happy birthday, gone are the days of handwritten letters and love notes. However, the romance and magnitude of a wedding requires a timeless and more considered way of communication. Therefore wedding stationery is just as prevalent now as it has ever been, and continues to grow with ever-changing wedding trends and styles. I’m going to talk through 5 (of my personal favourite) Wedding Invitation trends for 2016 and beyond.
1. Invitation Sets
I completely and utterly love invitation sets. Not only is it more exciting to open up an invitation and find a little bundle of information, but its informative, practical and adds depth to an invite. I always include a mini rsvp and envelope with the invitations I design, because lets face it, if we don’t make it easy for the guests, they might not get back to you and everyone loves sending a good old fashioned card in the post thats already labelled and stamped up for them!
Pocket-fold invitations, are my most popular and one of my favourite type of invitation sets. They are a great way to hold all your information for the day, with room for many little inserts. You can fill them up with what you wish, from accommodation, to transport, menu’s, honeymoon wishes or things to do in the local area - trust me your guests will love it, and can tuck them safely away until the big day.

2. Laser Invitations
With ever growing technology, its no wonder special machines can create intricate details to add a beautiful dimension to your invites. Laser invitations can easy be adapted for almost any wedding style or theme as well as bringing a touch of elegance. Lulabee offers a wide range of laser styled invitations in over 50 colours.
3. Illustration
Adding illustrations to your invites is a lovely way to further personalise your designs. 2016 has seen a flourish of hand drawn maps, flowers and herbs, bespoke crests, motifs and watercolours. I absolutely love anything floral, whimsical and romantic, and thrive to see such creations come to life. Its such a personal way to share your story and win the heart of your guests.
4. Sparkle, Shimmer & Shine!
There is something about a pop of sparkle that adds that extra oomph to an invitation, turning it into a sparkly masterpiece. Metallics are becoming increasingly popular colours not only through wedding stationery but through all aspects of a wedding, and its lovely to carry these colours and themes through right from the get go. I love a hint of gold as it ties in with almost any colour and adds a sophisticated modern twist to any invite.
5. Calligraphy
Calligraphy, alongside handwritten inspired fonts are personally my favourite, and you may notice I tie these fonts into almost all of my bespoke designs. Handwritten inspired fonts add such a beautiful element to your design, bringing back the more traditional form of writing. Tie this in with a contemporary design and you have the perfect balance and most beautiful personalised invitation.
